African Gold Group, Inc. Welcomes Dr. Tony Harwood to Board of Directors-Appointment Adds Depth to Mining & Finance Initiatives
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 28, 2015) - African Gold Group, Inc. (TSX VENTURE:AGG) ("AGG" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Tony Harwood to its board of directors, (the "Board"), as a Non-Executive Director. Dr. Harwood will be replacing Mr. Jean-Jacques ("JJ") Lefebvre, who has retired from the Company's Board, following six years of faithful service. The Board thanks JJ for his dedicated service and wishes him well in his future endeavors.
Dr. Antony Harwood ("Tony") is an economic geologist with over 30 years of experience in the mining industry. Tony graduated from the University of Wales, Cardiff, in the UK with a BSc (Hons) cum laude and a PhD degree in Economic Geology. His career focus has been on exploration, mine development and mining in Africa, working primarily for major and junior mining companies as a principle or as a consultant. In 2008, the company he served as CEO, won a "Special Award" at the prestigious Mines and Money Conference held in London for its outstanding and innovative sustainability work with local communities in the DRC.
Tony formerly served as President and CEO of Africo Resources, which he listed on the TSX, raising $124 million during his tenure. Prior to this Tony was Vice President Global Generative Exploration for Placer Dome Inc. from 1998 to 2006, then one of 5 major global gold mining companies. Tony is currently President and Chief Executive Officer of TSX-V listed Montero Mining and Exploration with its focus on Africa and projects situated in Tanzania and South Africa. Tony serves as a Director for East Africa Metals Inc. (Ethiopia and Tanzania) and Tesoro Minerals Corp. formerly AuRo Resource Corp. (Columbia) and was previously Executive Chairman of Universal Coal PLC (South Africa), as well as, Director of Adamus Resources (Ghana), Endeavour Mining Corp. (Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mali, Cote d'Ivoire), Auryx Gold Corp. (Namibia), and Lappland Goldminers AG (Sweden & Finland). Tony was founder of Harwood International Ltd, a geological consulting company, which he operated for 10 years and prior to this he held the position of lecturer at Cardiff University, UK and Natal University, Durban, South Africa.
