Ecometals Announces Board Changes
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/09/13 -- Ecometals Limited (the "Company") (TSX VENTURE: EC)(BERLIN: GDQ)(FRANKFURT: GDQ) announces two changes to its Board with immediate effect.
The first of these is the appointment of Dr. Vanessa Neumann. Dr. Neumann is a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, in both their Program on National Security and their Center for the Study of Terrorism. She is also an Associate of the University Seminar on Latin America at the Institute of Latin American Studies, at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University. Dr. Neumann is a consultant on Latin America and transnational threats to Fortune 100 companies and the US government, including the Departments of State, Defense and Homeland Security, as well as Interpol.
Dr. Neumann received her Ph.D. in political philosophy from Columbia University for her dissertation "The Autonomy and Legitimacy of States: A Critical Approach to Foreign Intervention".
A native Venezuelan, Dr. Neumann has worked as a journalist in Caracas, London and the United States, and is a regular contributor to The Weekly Standard on Latin American politics. She has also written on Latin America for The (London) Sunday Times, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph and Standpoint, been interviewed for The New York Times, the BBC, Al Jazeera English, Fox News, Veja, el Nuevo Herald, NTN24 and Caracol radio, and spoken at Columbia University, Yale University, Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies and the National Defense University.
From 2005-2007, Dr. Neumann was Assistant Professor of political philosophy at Hunter College of The City University of New York, while consulting for the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) on armed conflict in Colombia and working with Prof. Thomas Pogge at the Center for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics (CAPPE) in Canberra, Australia, on the alleviation of extreme poverty. Dr. Neumann has also worked in corporate planning and corporate finance in Caracas.
Second, is the resignation from the Board of Mr. Daniel Major. Mr. Major, a former COO of the Company, has extensive commitments in Africa as CEO of GoviEx Uranium Inc which no longer allow him the time for this external appointment.
Mr. William Lamarque, CEO, commented on the changes: "We are sad to say farewell to Mr. Major who has served the Company tirelessly both in executive and non-executive roles for several years. We will miss his insights. We are, however, happy and fortunate that Dr. Neumann is joining us. She has a distinguished background in Latin American affairs and has much to contribute to the Company's strategic restructuring. She takes up her Board position having already a significant financial interest in the Company."
Dr. Neumann in turn was quoted as follows: "I am delighted to join the Board of Ecometals; it will be an honor and a pleasure to work with a team with such a broad array of experience in mining and finance. I hope that my background in Latin America will make a contribution to the effective implementation of the Company's unique strategic vision."
