Boxxer advances Empire with positive metallurgical test results

CALGARY, Dec. 10, 2013 /CNW/ - Boxxer Gold Corp. (TSX Venture: BXX/OTC: BXXRF) ("Boxxer" or the "Corporation") is pleased to announce the results of the metallurgical testwork completed by Kappes Cassiday & Associates ("KCA") located in Reno, Nevada on representative samples of the mineralization from the Empire copper project located near Mackay, Idaho (for more information on the Empire Project see news release dated July 4, 2013). Information and head grade assays for the samples tested are set out below;

Two (2) sulfuric acid bottle roll leach tests were conducted on sample EM-13, MET-1 (KCA Sample No. 69501). One test was conducted for a leach period of 240 hours, utilizing a 10 kilogram portion of material crushed to a target size of 80% passing 19 millimeters. A second test was conducted for a leach period of 96 hours, utilizing a 1,000 gram portion of material that was ring and puck pulverized to a target size of 80% passing 0.075 millimeters. Each acid leach test maintained at a target concentration of 10.0 grams sulfuric acid (98%) per liter of solution. Results are shown below:

One cyanide bottle roll leach test was conducted on sample EM-13, MET-4 (KCA Sample No. 69504). A 1,000 gram portion of the material was ring and puck pulverized to a target size of 80% passing 0.075 millimeters. The pulverized material was then leached for 96 hours at a target concentration of 1.0 grams sodium cyanide per liter of solution. Results for each sample are shown below:

Boxxer's President and CEO, Elmer Stewart, explained; "the results of the metallurgical testwork are encouraging and indicates a high percentage of the copper present in the samples can be recovered in a relatively short period of time. The copper recovery curve on bottle roll test EM-13-MET-2 shows that 85% of the copper could be recovered in approximately 25 to 30 hours. The next phase of testing to optimise the results of the current test work requires a trade off study to determine if heap leaching or agitated Vat Leaching is the appropriate method to maximize the recovery of the metals. We are continuing to evaluate the results for the gold and silver recoveries to determine what further test work should be conducted. These positive results will now allow the company to move forward in defining the future progress on the project. We expect to file an updated NI 43-101 report on the project within the next two weeks".

Sample Preparation Procedures;
The samples used in the metallurgical testwork represent two distinct styles of mineralization; a copper dominant style of mineralization and a copper-gold-silver style of mineralization. The sample preparation procedures for EM-13, MET-1 (KCA Sample No. 69501 and EM-13, MET-4 KCA Sample No. 69504) were:

  1. The sample material was stage crushed to 100% passing 75 millimeters. The stage crushed material was recombined, coned three (3) times and quartered.
  2. Three (3) quarters were stored.
  3. The remaining quarter was weighed and oven dried for moisture content. The dried material was then stage crushed to 100% passing 25 millimeters, and size adjusted to a target size of 80% passing 19 millimeters. The size adjusted material was recombined, coned three (3) times and quartered.
  4. From the blended material, a 10 kilogram portion was split out and utilized for a coarse sulfuric acid bottle roll leach test. The remaining material was stored.
  5. The remaining quarter was crushed to a nominal size of 1.70 millimeters, coned three (3) times and quartered.
  6. From the combined two quarters, of 1.70 millimeter material, two (2) 200 gram portions were split out and individually ring and puck pulverized to a target size of 80% passing 0.075 millimeters. The pulverized portions were utilized for head analyses.
  7. From the combined 1.70 millimeter material, a 1,200 gram portion was split out and ring and puck pulverized to a target size of 80% passing 0.075 millimeters. From the pulverized material, a 1,000 gram portion was split out and utilized for a sulfuric acid bottle roll leach test. The remaining material was stored.

Head Analyses:
Material utilized in head material was crushed to 100% passing 1.70 millimeters. From the blended minus 1.70 millimeter material, duplicate 200 gram splits were ring and puck pulverized to a target size of 80% passing 0.075 millimeters. Total copper analyses were completed utilizing inductively coupled argon plasma-optical emission spectrophotometer (ICAP-OES) as well as FAAS methods. Gold and silver analyses were conducted on duplicate 200 gram splits. Gold content was determined using standard fire assay methods with flame atomic absorption spectrophotometric (FAAS) finish. Silver content was determined using wet chemistry methods (4-acid digestion) with FAAS finish. Mercury as well as semi-quantitative analyses for a suite of individual elements and whole rock constituents was determined using ICAP-OES (lithium metaborate fusion/ICAP). Sulfur and carbon content as well as sulfide and sulfate sulfur speciation was determined using a LECO CS 230 unit.
