StrikePoint Gold Inc. Completes First Drill Program at Pokiok Project, New Brunswick

17.08.2012  |  CNW
CALGARY, Aug. 17, 2012 /CNW/ - StrikePoint Gold (TSXV:SKP) (OTCQX: STKXF) announces that it has completed its first drill program on the Pokiok Batholith project in New Brunswick.

The Pokiok project is centred about 48 kilometres west of Fredericton and is composed of 244 claims that cover an area of 5468 hectares. The project is at the faulted contact between the Hawkshaw granite to the east and the Allandale granite to the west. StrikePoint controls over 15 kms of the fault zone which is characterized by the occurrence of mineralized boulders that have been identified in mapping and trenching programs. (See Press Releases of July 24 and April 19 2012).

Five holes were drilled in a concentrated area, totaling 1176m, at 45 degree dips in order to precisely localize the position of the fault zone. Subsequently, one 55 degree dipping hole was drilled to 588m approximately 1.7 km north of the initial five holes.

Hole #1 intersected unaltered granite with several intervals of hydrothermally altered granite. Most of the core from Holes #2 through Hole #6 intercepted the fault alteration zone and contain varying amounts of disseminated pyrite with chalcopyrite, including some clusters of denser pyrite and chalcopyrite, sphalerite and galena. The first three holes have been logged and sampled. Logging and sampling is anticipated to continue for two weeks. Assay results are pending and will be released when received and evaluated.

Richard Boulay, Chairman, stated that "The initial drill program at Pokiok has established the location and nature of the mineralized fault zone. It consists of silicified fault gouge and breccia with an apparent width of up to 300 m. Pending the receipt and evaluation of core sample results, further mapping and surface sampling operations will be undertaken along the 15 km length of the mapped fault zone."

All samples are being processed by Activation Laboratories Ltd (Actlabs) using Fire Assay/AA, ICP and/or Total Digestion ICP, as appropriate.

This press release has been reviewed by Daniel A. Beauchamp, B.Sc., P.Geol., StrikePoint Gold's Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101.
