Arch Coal's Thunder Basin Honored with Top Reclamation Award in Wyoming
The 2014 State of Wyoming Reclamation Award was presented to Thunder Basin's Black Thunder and Coal Creek mines.
"The Black Thunder and Coal Creek personnel take pride in the amount of wildlife they have on their mine sites," said Stacy Page, DEQ Land Quality Division permit coordinator. "They are conscientious about creating wildlife habitat with diverse vegetation, nesting platforms and amenities for the water fowl around and in many of their ponds."
According to Wyoming DEQ, the award illustrates Thunder Basin Coal Company's voluntary commitment to enhance the science of reclamation.
"We're proud of the extraordinary efforts the employees of Thunder Basin have taken to protect wildlife on mine property," said Paul A. Lang, Arch Coal's executive vice president and chief operating officer. "One of the ways Thunder Basin exhibits our strong commitment to neighborly practices is through such innovative mine reclamation efforts."
