Continental Gold Announces Key Management Additions
TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jun 17, 2014) - Continental Gold Ltd. (TSX:CNL)(OTCQX:CGOOF) ("Continental" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the following appointments to its management team: Andres Osorio Anaya as Vice-President and General Manager; Mauricio Carrillo as Vice-President, Project Development, and Julián González as Vice-President, Sustainability.
Andres Osorio Anaya has over 23 years of experience in underground and open-pit precious and base metal mines in Peru, Bolivia and Mexico. Prior to joining Continental, Mr. Osorio was General Manager of Endeavour Silver Corp.'s underground Guanacevi Mine in Mexico. He has previously worked as Central Operations Manager at Glencore Xstrata plc's Sinchi Wayra Unit in Bolivia, and Operations Manager at Volcan Compania Minera SAA's Yauli Unit in Peru, where he was responsible for one open pit and three underground mines. During his career, Mr. Osorio has led the development, commissioning and operations at a number of narrow vein underground mines utilizing a variety of mining methods, including cut and fill and long-hole stoping. Mr. Osorio holds a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria, Peru and an MBA from ESAN in Peru.
Mauricio Carrillo brings over 19 years of project management experience in construction and underground mining to the Company. Mr. Carrillo has been involved in international mining projects with a variety of commodities such as Pascua-Lama (gold/silver mine; Chile and Argentina; Barrick Gold Corp.), Chuquicamata (copper mine; Chile; Codelco), Oyu Tolgoi (gold/copper mine; Mongolia; Rio Tinto Group), Diavik (diamond mine; Canada; Rio Tinto Group) and Port Hope (uranium conversion facility; Ontario, Canada; Cameco Corp.). Prior to joining Continental, Mr. Carrillo was the Senior Project Manager for the Redpath Group at Pascua-Lama where he was responsible for a number of projects, including the underground excavation of a conveyor tunnel involving an access ramp, two shafts and two raises. Mr. Carrillo, born and raised in Colombia and a Canadian citizen, has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Pontificia Javeriana University in Bogota, Colombia and an MBA from Tulane University in New Orleans, USA. Mr. Carrillo holds professional engineering licenses in Ontario, Canada (P.Eng) and Arizona, USA (PE).
Julián González has over 20 years of Colombian and North American mining experience, with a focus on corporate social responsibility and community relations. Mr. Gonzalez was previously the Vice-President of Sustainability and Public Affairs for Cerrejón Coal Ltd., Colombia's largest private coal producer and exporter and recipient of multiple awards for best practices in environmental sustainability and community relations. Mr. Gonzalez, a Colombian citizen, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and International Business from ICESI University in Bogota, Colombia.
