Field Work Progressing on Schedule at Handa Copper's Copper Projects in Republic of Congo
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Nov 6, 2014) - Handa Copper Corp. (TSX VENTURE:HEC) reports that its technical team has made considerable progress advancing field work on its Maboudou permit in the Republic of Congo. Since the implementation of the field program in September 2014, over 150 line kilometres of soil sampling at 50 to 100 metres sample intervals have been completed within the Maboudou permit area along with extensive reconnaissance mapping.
Initial results suggested that anomalous copper values identified by soil sampling are associated with a specific stratigraphic unit and follow-up work subsequently identified copper values in outcrop grading up to 0.3% Cu based on portable XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis. Sample preparation, analysis and interpretation is ongoing at these exciting targets.
As previously announced in our news release of October 16, 2014, Handa Copper has located an archival report prepared by Institut Equatorial de Recherches et d'Études Géologiques et Minières (IRGM) detailing work carried out on what is now the Company's Banda Kayes permit. The report describes a comprehensive program of geochemical stream sediment sampling and geological mapping that was carried out in 1960.
Because this archival material was stored by geological and/or mining agencies in two separate countries, it remained largely unknown to non-government entities. "Discovery of this report in our archival review process was a major coup for the Company and will serve to expedite the cost-effective prioritization of drill targets for 2015," said the Company's President, Jon Stacey.
The exploration program executed by the IRGM, which was specifically designed to target Copperbelt-style Cu-Pb mineralization, identified 17 coherent stream geochemical anomalies that were never followed up due to the subsequent dissolution of the IRGM. "This report represents an invaluable resource to Handa Copper as duplication of this survey more than 50 years later would be enormously expensive," Stacey added.
Some highlights of the report are as follows:
- Area of report covers 1,800 square kilometres of the Banda Kayes permit. 9,588 samples were taken, of which 8,193 were stream and 1,395 were soil, providing a sample density of approximately five samples per square kilometre.
- Analysis was done by colorimetric methods with 17 coherent anomalies identified in various members of the basal Neoproterozoic stratigraphy. These rocks host stratabound copper-lead deposits in the Central African Copper belt and West Congolian Copper Belt.
- An anomaly baseline of 80 ppm Cu was used and 40 ppm was considered background. Results to a maximum of 780 ppm Cu were identified.
By virtue of its large land holding in the Neoproterozoic West Congolian Belt, Handa Copper is rapidly developing a comprehensive understanding of the basin that is constantly being refined with newly interpreted data.
Follow-up work has been initiated on the priority targets identified by the IRGM and Handa Copper looks forward to drill testing these anomalies in 2015.
