Murchison Minerals Increases the Land Holdings of the HPM Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Joint-Venture Project in Quebec
In 2008, Murchison flew an AeroTEM II survey, completed ground geophysical surveys, drilled 13 holes and successfully extended the main Barre de Fer mineralized prospect to a strike extent of about 300 metres and a down-dip extent of 280 metres. That mineralized zone remains open at depth and partially along strike. Other mineralized showings and EM anomalies at HPM remain underexplored.
- Massive nickel-copper sulphide mineralization
- High-grade drill intercepts
- Outcrop discoveries
- Open to drill expansion
- Property and regional exploration upside
- Rail and road accessible
- Quebec - first world mining jurisdiction
Significant assay results from the 2008 drilling program have been previously released by Murchison Minerals, (See Manicouagan Minerals Inc., former name of Murchison, Press Releases dated November 6, September 11, and August 6, 2008).
These results included 43.18 metres of 1.74% nickel, 0.90% copper and 0.90% cobalt from hole HPM-08-03.
Ground Prospecting Program HPM Property
Limited prospecting of the priority targets in the vicinity of the Barre de Fer Prospect in 2009 has led to the discovery of several new nickel-copper-cobalt showings (including the Syrah, Muscat and Pinot). At the Syrah showing, breccia-vein style, semi-massive to massive sulphide (pyrrhotite +/- chalcopyrite) mineralization has been observed over a 65 by 15 metre area within the “Gabbro Est” intrusive body. Grab samples have returned values up to 0.60% nickel, 1.3% copper and 0.11% cobalt.
The property includes the claim group where historical prospecting by Xstrata Nickel delineated a mineralized zone over a strike length of one kilometre, which returned grab samples containing up to 0.76% nickel, 0.93% copper and 0.14% cobalt.
The HPM property lies just east of highway 389, which runs between Baie-Comeau and Fermont, Québec. Murchison originally earned a 50% interest in the HPM property from Pure Nickel Inc. (see Press Release dated November 18, 2009).
