Brazil Minerals, Inc. Begins to Execute Strategy to Self-Finance Mining Costs

12.03.2015  |  Marketwire

BELO HORIZONTE, BRAZIL--(Marketwired - Mar 12, 2015) - Brazil Minerals Inc. (OTCBB: BMIX) (the "Company" or "BMIX") announced today that its subsidiary Mineração Duas Barras Ltda ("MDB") has signed a non-exclusive contract with a Brazilian company for the ongoing sale of sand. The initial term of the contract runs until December 31, 2015. BMIX has received other proposals to sell its sand and is studying them.

Pursuant to the signed contract, this customer is obligated to purchase a minimum volume of sand per month ("Minimum Volume"). The cash payable to MDB for the Minimum Volume will cover the salary costs of all of the employees working in diamond, gold, and sand operations at MDB. Any cash flows beyond the Minimum Volume or from other sand customers would offset other operational costs, such as diesel for the operation of the diamond and gold recovery plant. In essence, BMIX's strategy is to be able to have the cash inflows from the sale of MDB's sand cover the majority or eventually all of the operational costs of running MDB's plant and its diamond and gold mining operations, thus adding greater financial flexibility.

It is estimated that MDB possesses over 454,800 tons of high quality industrial-use sand in one location and additional areas within its concession with lesser amounts. Sand is beneficial to MDB in two ways: its cash flows are independent from diamond and gold operations and it is easily obtained with low extraction costs.

About Brazil Minerals, Inc.
