IAMGOLD's Three Owned Mines Earn Awards for Sustainable Mining

TORONTO, Dec. 16, 2015 /CNW/ - IAMGold Corp. ("IAMGOLD" or the "Company") today announced that its Rosebel Gold Mine in Suriname, Essakane Mine in Burkina Faso and Westwood Mine in Canada have each been awarded prestigious Towards Sustainable Mining ("TSM") Leadership Awards for 2015 by the Mining Association of Canada.  For the first time, mines outside Canada have been eligible for the TSM Leadership Award.  Essakane and Rosebel were respectively the only winners in Africa and South America.

TSM's requirements go well beyond regulatory obligations and are designed to improve industry's operational performance in key environmental and social areas of mining. The TSM Leadership Award is granted only when a mining operation meets or exceeds a Level A ranking in their results across all of the six protocols of TSM: health and safety, Aboriginal and community outreach, crisis management, tailings management, biodiversity conservation management, and energy use and greenhouse gas emissions management. An operation's TSM results are externally verified to be eligible for the award.
