New Drilling Targets at East-West Gold Property Adjacent Wesdome's Kiena Mine Property
Val d'Or, Quebec, Canada / TheNewswire / October 7, 2016 - Knick Exploration Inc. ("Knick") is pleased to report that that as well as the principle drill targets on East-West gold property's West Zone area next to Osisko Mining's Marban Mine property an area in the north-east part of the property next to Wesdome's Kiena Mine property will be tested.
The ongoing compilation of historical information coming from historical drilling continues to deliver salient information which has led to high priority new drill targets. Unfortunately the historical core has not been located.
The North-East Targets:
In the north east area, widely spaced drill holes, 150 metre separations, were drilled southward from the northern boundary of the property. They intersected what is now recognized as favourable lithologies embedded in the Marbenite Fault Zone system. The priority drilling targets have been derived by following geological features observed in the historical core logging reports which are now considered in the Val d'Or-Malartic mining camp as gold mineralization proximity markers.
-
--Fractured, veined and weakly pyritized massive andesite units
-
--Tremolite-actinolite schist in contact with competent massive andesite
-
--Quartz-carbonate-tourmaline-pyrite veins stockworks over 3 to 10 metres wide intervals
-
--Feldspar porphyry dykes.
At the time were these historical holes were drilled (1986), sampling was focused predominately on quartz veining and sulfide enriched zones which frequently returned gold however substantial intersections of core with potential gold mineralization were not assayed. Thirty years later, at present, the understanding of such systems has evolved to a point where we realize that significant gold mineralization was missed.
Knick considers that re-testing these targets and using an appropriate sampling will deliver results likely to improve and extend the gold mineralization system footprint of the property. The company envisions using elements of the gold mineralization models developed by Wesdome for the Kiena Mine.
The new north-east target area seems to correlate along strike with the Presqu'Ile Zone and S50 zones of the Kiena Mine (see Technical Report for the Wesdome Project, December 2015), which are located close to or inside the Marbenite Fault Zone. Wesdome recently released information indicating new high grade gold intersections (18,8 grams per tonne over 16,95 metres, Wesdome Press Release, September 15th 2016) at a depth of 1,200 metres, possibly down dip from the mined S50 zone.
Information on the company and it properties are posted on the Knick website at www.knick.ca.
