The Board of Western Areas Ltd. (ASX:WSA) ("Western Areas" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Natalia Streltsova as an Independent Non-Executive Director which will take effect from 1 January 2017. 

Dr Streltsova, a PhD qualified chemical engineer, has over 25 years experience in the minerals industry, with a particular emphasis on nickel, including mineral processing and hydrometallurgy across a range of commodities. Her previous roles have included Director of Technical Development at Vale, Development Manager at GRD Minproc and senior technical roles at BHP Billiton and WMC Resources. Dr Streltsova is currently an Independent Non-Executive Director of Neometals Ltd. and Potash West NL.

Western Areas Independent Non-Executive Chairman, Mr Ian Macliver welcomed the appointment of Dr Streltsova to the Board.
