Tri Origin Commences Field Program at Alliance Abitibi Gold & Base Metal Properties

01.06.2017  |  The Newswire
Aurora, June 1, 2017 - Tri Origin Exploration Ltd. (TSX-V:TOE) ("Tri Origin" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that a summer field program of geological surveying has commenced at a portion of the Company's large property holding along the south margin of the Abitibi Greenstone Belt in the Cobalt-Temagami region of Ontario. This work is conducted on behalf of a gold and base metal exploration Alliance entered into between Tri Origin and Sumac Mines Ltd. ("Sumac") a subsidiary of Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. ("Sumitomo"). Sumac is funding Alliance activities to a maximum total expenditure of C$4.5 million. The current field work comprises the first part of a 2017 work program that has a pre-drilling budget of $424,000.

Field work will focus on Target Area 2 ("TA-2"), an area selected by the Alliance for detailed exploration following the completion of regional surveys and drilling at Target Area 1 during 2016. Field work will consist of geological investigations, prospecting and sampling at a variety of historic mineral occurrences identified by the Company which include; gold, copper/nickel/PGE, cobalt and silver. Abundant gold occurrences have been discovered by earlier prospecting of Archean and Proterozoic rocks along a 15 kilometre long trend through the centre of TA-2. Assay values of grab samples throughout this trend as reported in Ministry of Northern Development and Mines assessment files commonly exceed 1 gram of gold per tonne (MNDM AFRI file 20000004597 and 20000003893). In addition, copper-nickel occurrences hosted by Archean rocks have been partially delineated by previous drilling within TA-2 at Whitney Lake. Values reported in MNDM files from diamond drilling at Whitney Lake generally range between 0.3% to 0.5% nickel and 0.1% to 0.3% copper across intervals of 1 to 2 metres (MNDM AFRI file 31M04NE2002 and 31M04NE9712). Prospecting in the TA-2 region during the early and mid-1900's also resulted in the discovery of a number of silver-cobalt occurrences although detailed historic assay information is limited. These occurrences will also be evaluated by the Company during the upcoming field season.

The Alliance is focused on discovery of high-grade and high-value gold and gold-rich, poly-metallic sulphide deposits along the southern margin of the Abitibi Greenstone Belt - one of the most prolific metal producing areas in the world. In the Cobalt-Temagami region, the prospective Archean-age volcanic rocks are covered by younger, regionally extensive, Proterozoic-age sedimentary rocks. These cover rocks precluded historic prospecting of the Archean rocks and limited the effectiveness of earlier geophysical equipment which had minimal depth penetration capability. Furthermore, much of this terrain was excluded from exploration during the time period between 1970 and 2000 due to land cautions and exploration moratoriums.

Mineral occurrences at TA-2 are hosted within both the Archean basement rocks of the Abitibi Greenstone Belt and Proterozoic sedimentary cover rocks. The nature of these occurrences is poorly understood however many workers in the region have indicated that mineralization identified at surface in the Proterozoic rocks may have been remobilized from buried sources in the underlying Archean. Tri Origin shares this belief and the abundance of mineral occurrences at TA-2 provides incentive to evaluate this regionally extensive, covered terrain.

The objective of the field work is to delineate and prioritize areas within TA-2 for follow-up geophysical surveying and diamond drilling. The next phase of work will depend on results of the current program. Field work is expected to be complete during July. Shareholders will be informed of the results of this work and of plans for follow-up geophysical surveying and drill target delineation as they are formalized.

Alliance activities within the southern Abitibi Greenstone Belt provide a fully-funded opportunity for Tri Origin to capitalize on its strategy of identifying and acquiring prospective, district-scale properties in well-mineralized mining areas and advancing these properties toward making new discoveries.

Tri Origin is pleased to participate with Sumac in its mineral exploration efforts and values Sumac's contributions to this Alliance. Sumitomo, Sumac's parent company, is a Japanese firm engaged in gold and base metals mining, smelting and refining, manufacturing of semiconductor and advanced materials and other business.
