Centamin Plc: Appointment of Non-Executive Director
Perth, Australia - Centamin is pleased to announce that Professor Ibrahim Fawzy ("Dr Fawzy") has been appointed as an independent Non-Executive Director with immediate effect. Dr Fawzy has over 50 years of Egyptian industry, economic and investment experience. As a mechanical engineer, obtaining his PhD from University College, London, Dr Fawzy held the key position of Minister of Industry of Egypt from 1993 to 1996. He also previously held public sector positions such as Cultural Counsellor to the Egyptian Embassy in London and, between 1996 to 2000, President and CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones ("GAFI").
Currently Dr Fawzy is the Chairman of the Egyptians Abroad Company for Investment & Development, a listed entity on the Cairo Stock Exchange, and a Director of the subsidiary companies. From 2010 until 2016, Dr Fawzy held the position of Non-Executive Director at HSBC Bank Egypt SAE, where he was a member of the audit and risk, governance and nomination committees. From 2007 and 2010, Dr Fawzy held the position of Non-Executive Director at the Nasdaq listed company, Quality Systems Inc, where he was a member of the nomination and remuneration committees.
Following Dr Fawzy's appointment, the Centamin Board will comprise of eight members; three executives and five independent non-executives. This appointment reflects the Company's ongoing commitment to achieving the highest standards of corporate governance.
