Solitario Intersects 9.3 Meters Grading 26.5% Zinc Equivalent at Florida Canyon, Peru

28.10.2019  |  Accesswire

DENVER, October 28, 2019 - Solitario Zinc Corp. ("Solitario") (NYSE American:XPL)(TSX:SLR) is pleased to provide an update on the continuing 2019 drilling program on its Florida Canyon zinc project in Peru. The highlight of this round of drilling was drill hole PEBGD000032 that intersected three stacked, nearly horizontal, high-grade zinc mantos, extending them by approximately 200 meters eastward from the San Jorge mineralized replacement body:

  • 9.3 meters grading 26.5% zinc-equivalent ("ZnEq"),
  • 3.1 meters grading 19.7% ZnEq
  • 2.7 meters grading 16.0% ZnEq

The Florida Canyon zinc project, located in northern Peru, is joint ventured with, and operated by, the world's fourth largest zinc miner, Nexa Resources S.A. (NYSE: NEXA; TSX: NEXA) ("Nexa").

Three of the major objectives for the 2019 drilling program are to: 1) extend the San Jorge near-vertical replacement bodies in the southern part of the project area; 2) determine if the mineralization intersected in the previously drilled hole V-21 in the northern part of Florida Canyon represents a newly discovered, near-vertical replacement body (now referred to as the 1021 Zone) similar to the San Jorge Zone; and 3) extend horizontal mantos, particularly those situated near the vertical replacement bodies. With the drilling results presented in this and previous releases, all three objectives are being successfully achieved.

The results from drill holes PEBGD000024, 25, 28 and 31 are very important in demonstrating the potential size and lateral continuity of the emerging 1021 Zone over an 800-meter strike length. This compares favorably with the San Jorge zone to the south which has expanded to approximately one kilometer in strike length with this year's drilling. A long section of the 1021 Zone can be seen here.

Results reported within this news release (see table below) are for drill holes PEBGD000021to 33. Seven of these 10 holes intersected significant mineralization, all of which should contribute to expanding the Florida Canyon resource base. Assay results for the final six drill holes of the 2019 program will be reported before the end of the year. Please see prior news releases for previously reported drilling results from the 2019 drilling program at Florida Canyon.

Chris Herald, President and Chief Executive Officer of Solitario, commented, "These are stellar results that advance the Florida Canyon Project on several fronts. Firstly, the 1021 Zone appears to have the potential to rival the San Jorge zone in terms of scale, including both size and grade. Secondly, we were able to extend the San Jorge zone to the south. Finally, several high-grade mantos bodies were expanded laterally to the east from the San Jorge structural corridor. These assay results continue the string of previously reported positive results from the 2019 Florida Canyon drilling program and solidify our belief that the Florida Canyon deposit has the potential to substantially grow, particularly to the south and the 1021 Zone. We remain encouraged that most of the 2019 drill holes have intersected high-quality mineralization. We look forward to completing this year's drill program on the heels of improving zinc prices."

Drill hole information contained within this release is reported under Nexa's quality control program reviewed by Mr. Walt Hunt, COO for Solitario Zinc Corp., who is a qualified person as defined by National Instrument 43-101. Samples are derived from 50% splits of HQ and NQ (2.5 and 1.9 inch) diameter core. Samples are shipped via secured third-party land transportation companies and analyzed by ALS Chemex Inc., in Lima, Peru.
