Barrick Gold Corporation - Announces Changes to Senior Management

TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 06/10/10 -- Barrick Gold Corporation (NYSE: ABX) (TSX: ABX) today announced changes to its senior management team.Patrick Garver, EVP and General Counsel has decided to take early retirement from Barrick effective July 31. Patrick has been with Barrick since 1993 and has been instrumental in contributing to the rapid growth and success of Barrick.
Vince Borg, EVP Corporate Communications, will be leaving Barrick effective July 31 but will continue to provide strategic communications counsel. He will also be working with Founder and Chairman Peter Munk, in his other business and philanthropic endeavors. Vince joined Barrick in 1991 and has been a strong, seasoned spokesman for the Company. Vince has led an award-winning communications team that produced high quality communications vehicles such as Beyond Borders, Barrick News and Barrick Central.

As a result of these changes, and as part of the Company's ongoing effort to maximize efficiencies, the Legal, Communications and Corporate Affairs functions will be combined and will report to Kelvin Dushnisky. Mr. Dushnisky joined Barrick in 2002 and progressed through successive positions to become Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs in December 2007. He is a lawyer with extensive international business and government relations experience.
Sybil Veenman, Senior Vice President and Assistant General Counsel and Corporate Secretary has been appointed SVP and General Counsel. Ms. Veenman has been with the Company since 1994, serving in progressive roles within the Legal Department. During this time she has played a key role leading or supporting Barrick's various financings, business transactions and regulatory compliance initiatives worldwide.
