African Metals Corporation: Exploration Activity Update
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/03/10 -- African Metals Corp. ('AFR') (TSX VENTURE: AFR)(FRANKFURT: OWW) is pleased to provide an exploration update on activities at its Luisha South and Kalende Projects, Katanga Provence, Democratic Republic of Congo.
Luisha South Soil Geochemical Sampling
Basanga Consulting Sprl, geological contractors, has commenced a regional soil sampling and reconnaissance rock chip sampling program on the Luisha South Project. Approximately 353 samples will be collected from a grid with a layout designed to highlight possible extensions of the Luisha South open pit high grade copper and cobalt mineralization (refer AFR press release 15 June 2010). The mineralization has been inferred as continuing to the southeast towards the licence boundary. Geochemical results for the samples collected from the program of works are expected within the next 6 weeks depending on Laboratory constraints.
The occurrence of mineralization outside the open pit was identified by visual estimates in the recently completed RC percussion drilling campaign. Logging of drill chips from holes collared south and southeast of the pit boundaries identified malachite and chalcopyrite copper mineralization. Geological interpretation of the program is in progress.
Luisha South Drill Program Update
Titan Drilling Sprl recently completed a 2002 metre RC percussion drilling program at the Luisha South Project. Twenty one angled and vertical holes were drilled in the vicinity of the pit; fifteen holes collared to the northwest, west and south of the pit whilst six holes were collared in the pit base. Samples were collected from all holes at one meter intervals and riffle split to produce approximately one kilogram sub-samples for analysis. A total of 1462 samples including QC controls were despatched to SGS Minerals laboratory in Kalulushi, Zambia for sample processing and analysis. Analytical results are expected mid August. A short delay was experienced in exporting the samples from the DRC, however the assay results should be available for integration into the mineral resource estimate prior to the end of August 2010.
Kalende Project
Basanga Consulting Sprl will commence in late August a test pitting program at the company's Kalende Project, located approximately 60 kilometers NE of Lubumbashi. Results from previous regional soil sampling highlighted large scale copper and cobalt anomalies of up to 1,200 x 800 meters in dimension, overlying leached prospective Roan Formation (refer AFR press release 22 April 2008). Some of the anomalies are cut by a regional scale northeast trending linear structure which may have contributed to the mineralization.
AFR will be keeping the market updated on progress as and when results become available during this exciting phase of the development of the company.
