Northland Appoints Key Managers for Sweden and Finland
Frankfurt: NPK - "Northland" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that it
has appointed Mr. Peter Pernlöf to the position of Vice President - Procurement
and Energy, Mr. Jukka Jokela to the position of Vice President - Finnish
Operations, Mr. Göran Arlefalk to the position of Project Manager for the
Kaunisvaara Project, and Mr. Willy Sundling to the position of Project Manager -
Logistics for the Kaunisvaara and Hannukainen Projects.

Mr. Pernlöf has been appointed Vice President of Procurement and Energy for the
Company. He will be responsible for ensuring that all product and material
purchases meet defined quality standards. He will also be responsible for the
Company's energy strategy. Mr. Pernlöf has assumed the position with immediate
effect. Mr. Pernlöf has held a series of executive and senior management roles
within a broad range of industrial companies. He previously worked as a
consultant in energy, procurement and logistics. Prior to joining Northland, he
served as the Chief Executive Officer of Basel AB, a company founded in 2005,
consisting of over twenty of the largest energy-consuming primary industries in
Sweden, with a total consumption of about 30TWh per annum. His experience also
includes more than 10 years at Boliden AB, where he served as Vice President of
Procurement.
Mr. Jokela has been appointed Vice President of Finnish Operations, as well as
Managing Director for Northland Mines OY. He will be responsible for
establishing the Northland brand, as we now develop the Hannukainen Project and
will be instrumental in all the contacts with authorities and other
stakeholders. Mr. Jokela has taken on his position with immediate effect. Mr.
Jokela has been with Northland for the last 2 years and served as the Managing
Director of Northland Exploration Finland OY. Mr. Jokela has over 25 years of
international experience in mineral exploration, geological research, and
project and company management in different mining and exploration companies
(Outokumpu Mining Oy, Polar Mining Oy, Store Norske Gull As, and the Geological
Survey of Finland). Mr. Jokela holds an M.Sc. in Geology and Mineralogy, from
the University of Turku, Finland.
We have asked Mr. Arlefalk to assume the role as the Project Manager for the
Kaunisvaara Project. In this position, he will have overall responsibility for
the delivery of the Kaunisvaara Project, from Basic Engineering to final hand
over of the finished project to the Operations Organisation. Mr Arlefalk will
assume his duties within Northland, beginning 2011. Mr. Arlefalk has long
experience from project management internationally; his latest role was General
Site Manager for Siemen's largest project in Russia, the power plant project in
Perm. Prior to the Perm assignment, Mr. Arlefalk held the position of Deputy
General Director / Site Manager for theOzernyGOK in Eastern Siberia, a joint
venture between Lundin Mining AB and IFC Metropol, Moscow, with overall
responsibility on site for the project and preparing the project start up,
including project development and initial facilities construction. He originally
comes from the Swedish Army, where he served in a multitude of Commanding
positions. Amongst other assignments in the Army, he was the Commander for the
Nordic Contingency in 1995, during the Balkan war.
Mr. Sundling has joined the Company as Project Manager - Logistics for the
Kaunisvaara and Hannukainen Projects. Logistics is key to the overall success of
both projects and Mr. Sundling has the relevant experience and expertise. Prior
to this assignment, Mr. Sundling worked for four years as the General
Municipality Manager for Kalix Municipality. Prior to Kalix, Mr. Sundling was
the Project Manager for two of the largest investment projects in the region -
the construction of the Cultural Centre in Luleå and the construction of the new
secondary school in Luleå.
Northland is a development-stage mining company with a portfolio of iron
projects in northern Sweden and Finland. Northland's Kaunisvaara Project
contemplates the staged development of magnetite iron ore deposits that would
provide feed to a single, multi-line processing facility in Sweden, producing a
high-grade, high-quality magnetite iron concentrate. On December 14, 2010, the
Company announced the decision of the Board to begin construction of the
Kaunisvaara Project.
