IAMGOLD: Fatal Accident at Rosebel

TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/05/11 -- IAMGOLD Corporation ('IAMGOLD' or the 'Company') (TSX: IMG)(NYSE: IAG)(BOTSWANA: IAMGOLD) regrets to report the death of a contractor's employee in an isolated accident this weekend at its Rosebel Gold Mines in Suriname. The accident involved an employee of Major Drilling working at the Rosebel Operation.

The single vehicle accident occurred Friday night when the RTV, an all terrain utility vehicle, driven by the contractor's employee, rolled over on its side for reasons yet to be determined. No one else was involved in the accident.

Major Drilling has notified the individual's family. IAMGOLD is offering assistance and support to the individual's family and colleagues and the entire Rosebel workforce.

The Rosebel emergency response team was immediately activated and internal and external emergency services personnel were called to the site. The Company also notified the relevant government authorities and other stakeholders.

Investigations led by the Company have been initiated and the Company is working with Major Drilling and local authorities to determine the cause of the accident.

The immediate thoughts of management are with the family, friends and co-workers of our Major Drilling colleague.
