The Virginia Team Again Rewarded by the Mining Industry
QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC -- (Marketwire) -- 11/25/11 -- Virginia Mines Inc. (TSX: VGQ) - The Virginia team is pleased to announce that its president, Andre Gaumond, has received the 'Hector-Authier 2011' award at the recent Quebec Exploration Convention organized by the Association de l'exploration miniere du Quebec (AEMQ).
This annual award recognizes the recipient's significant contribution to the development of mining entrepreneurship in Quebec. The AEMQ has chosen to honour the dynamism of Mr. Gaumond on his business successes and for his participation in the socio-economic development on the James Bay exploration territories and in the Quebec North.
Andre Gaumond has an engineering background. He learned the workings of corporate finance and mining company management during his years as a financial analyst within various brokerage firms and management companies. Stemming from this experience, he was able to grow Virginia Mines into one of the most active mining exploration companies in Quebec.
Under Mr. Gaumond's leadership, the Virginia team was awarded more than 12 prizes over the past 10 years, among them the Prospector of the Year award, one of Canada's most prestigious prize given by the industry, for the 2004 discovery of the Eleonore deposit, a world-class gold mine that will be in production in about three years and operated by Goldcorp.
Virginia earned its excellent reputation in sustainable development due to its leadership in dealing with Aboriginal communities and its environmental commitment, including its participation in the creation of Fonds Restor-Action Nunavik, an initiative originating from several mining companies, which aims at the rehabilitation of abandoned mining sites in the Quebec North.
Mr. Gaumond says: 'I am extremely proud to receive this award and I would like to point out that all Virginia's successes were achieved thanks to the dynamism, the professionalism and the dedication of its wonderful team'.
