Suncor Energy recognized for Leading by Metrics safety program
The Leading by Metrics program was implemented by the in situ drilling, completions and logistics teams in 2009. It focuses on leading indicators that measure the proactive safety efforts occurring in the field to minimize the risk of injury on the front line. These leading indicators are then used as a predictive tool to prevent future incidents.
"Our main concern has always been that people get home safely," says Brett Regier, general manager, In Situ Drilling, Completions and Logistics. "This award is an opportunity for Suncor to share what we've learned and accomplished as a result of the leading indicators project and possibly improve safety across the industry."
As a result of the project, the recordable injury frequency within the group has dropped by more than 60 per cent since 2009 and it continues to fall. Specific operations within the group have been free of recordable injuries for more than one year.
The awards, which recognize CAPP members who have demonstrated exceptional performance in their commitment to responsible development of Canada's petroleum resources, were handed out at a dinner on March 21.
