“Alcoa Tweetup′ To Welcome National Society of Black Engineers
When student members of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) arrive for this week′s convention and career fair at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, Alcoa (NYSE:AA) will invite them to 'tweet' about their experiences.
The Alcoa Corporate Center on the city′s North Shore will be the venue for the 'Alcoa Tweetup' this Thursday, March 29. Nearly 200 NSBE student members from Alcoa′s 18 Campus Partnership Program schools will partake in interactive exhibits from the Alcoa Innovation Center, a showcase of Alcoa initiatives in sustainability and technology, and learn about careers at Alcoa from several business unit and corporate recruiters.
The students will be encouraged to share their experiences at the Alcoa networking event via their Twitter accounts and throughout the two-day NSBE event.
'At Alcoa, our diversity efforts focus on building on our similarities while leveraging our differences so we can achieve optimal performance,' said Gena Lovette, Alcoa Chief Diversity Officer. 'We believe in creating an inclusive, high performance environment where all of our employees are challenged to reach their full potential.'
Alcoa has created a number of employee networks that support diversity across the company's worldwide operations. These affinity groups include Alcoa Women′s Network, Employees at Alcoa for Gay and Lesbian Equality, and the Alcoa African Heritage Network (AHN).
'Our goal is to connect people through networking and mentoring,' said Everick Spence, co-chair of Alcoa's AHN group and plant manager of Alcoa's Kawneer architectural aluminum building and construction products plant in Springdale, Arkansas.
'Alcoa has provided me with many learning opportunities and challenges that have broadened my career development,' Spence added. 'I joined Alcoa as an engineering superintendent in Alcoa's Global Packaging Division in Tennessee. Now, I am a plant manager in a totally different business ? building and construction -- getting another opportunity to learn a new business and expand my capabilities.'
The 'Alcoa Tweetup' is just one way Alcoa is involved in the NSBE
convention. Representatives from Alcoa′s businesses will conduct onsite
interviews at the career fair for full-time and internship openings.
Alcoa has also become a member of the NSBE Board of Corporate Affiliates
to further enhance the company′s efforts to recruit talented engineers.
