Alpha Natural Resources' Affiliates Recognized for Environmental Achievements
BRISTOL, Va., April 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Alpha Natural Resources
, a leading U.S. coal supplier, is pleased to announce that several of its operating affiliates have been recognized for their environmental accomplishments. The awards were presented by the Virginia Mining Association and the Virginia Division of Mined Land Reclamation at an annual dinner on Saturday, March 31, held in Norton, Va. Operations receiving awards include the following:
-- Maggard Branch Coal, LLC's Osaka Imboden mine has been named the Best
Active Deep Mine in Virginia for 2011. It was recognized for its
drainage and erosion control as well its work to minimize dust;
-- Paramont Coal Company Virginia, LLC's South Fork surface mine was named
the Best Active Surface Mine in Virginia for 2011 for its contouring,
re-grading, application of topsoil, and re-vegetation reclamation work;
and
-- Paramont Coal received the 10-year Legacy Award for its work to restore
mine property to hayland pasture. The Legacy Award recognizes visual
appearance and how well the post-mining land use was accomplished years
after closing.
