Alcoa Named One of China′s Top 100 Green Companies

07.05.2012  |  Business Wire
Alcoa (NYSE:AA) has been named one of China′s Top 100 Green Companies by Green Company Magazine in its annual ranking of corporate sustainability practices. It is the second year in a row Alcoa has been recognized by the publication for environmental leadership.

The ranking was initiated by Green Company Magazine, Chinese Entrepreneur Association and Daonong Center for Enterprise, a leading Chinese think tank on developing entrepreneurship.

Alcoa was recognized for its endeavor to drive sustainability through technological innovation, advanced management to reduce carbon emissions, and investment in research projects on environmental and social impacts generated by business operations.

'A meaningful innovation brings true and sustainable benefits for the company and the industry. But more importantly it brings benefits to the communities where the company operates,' said Jinya Chen, Alcoa Vice President and President of Asia Pacific. 'Innovation can create long-term positive impacts on sustainable growth in China. Chinese companies and government bodies need to consider implications beyond short-term business interests when making investments in technology, operations and innovation.'

More than 1,000 companies competed for the recognition, which was based on five criteria including business performance, contribution to society, environmental impact, innovation and cross-business competitiveness. Winners are chosen through an on-line survey taken by the general public on China′s leading news portals and a review by senior business executives and scholars.

The top 100 winners were announced during a Green Company Forum held recently in Wuhan, China. Co-sponsored by Wuhan municipality, the forum gathered more than 100 business leaders, senior government officials, prestigious scholars and business commentators.

Joining Alcoa on the list are other world leading multinationals such as General Electric, Volkswagen China, P&G, as well as China national top companies like Lenovo and Bao Steel.
