Barkerville Announces Appointment of Kevin McMurren as Mine Manager

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA -- (Marketwire) -- 08/20/12 -- Barkerville Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX VENTURE: BGM)(FRANKFURT: IWUB) ("Barkerville", the "Company") is pleased to announce that Mr. Kevin L. McMurren has rejoined Barkerville as Mine Manager, having previously served as Mine Manager at the Company's QR Mine and Mill between 2010 and 2011. Mr. McMurren will be on site overseeing all of the mining operations at the QR Mine and the Bonanza Ledge Mine. He has over 30 years of mining operations experience, most recently as Underground Mines Manager for Avion Gold Corporation in Mali, Africa where he was part of a team that brought two underground gold mines into production and started the development of a third new mine. From 2005 through 2009 he was Mine Manager during pre-production development for New Gold Inc.'s New Afton Project, an 11,000-tpd, block cave, copper-gold project near Kamloops, BC. Prior to this, Mr. McMurren held senior technical and supervisory positions with an emphasis on the start up of mining operations. Projects have included: the Billiton Mount Pleasant Tungsten Mine and the LAC Minerals -- Billiton Tin Project in New Brunswick, Noranda's Golden Giant Mine in Ontario, Canmine Resources' Werner Lake Cobalt Project in Ontario and the Maskwa Nickel Project in Manitoba, and the Cabot Corporation's Tanco Mine, also in Manitoba. Mr. McMurren started his mining career at Sherritt Gordon Mines' Fox Lake Mine in Manitoba in 1978.

The Company's mineral tenures now cover over 117,691.14 hectares, encompassing seven past producing hard rock mines and three NI 43-101 gold deposits, including the QR Mine & Mill. The QR Property was acquired in February 2010 and includes a 900 tonne/day gold milling facility and a permitted gold mine located approximately 110 kilometers by highway and all-weather road from the Barkerville Gold Camp. In November 2010 the Company acquired a second permitted mill currently on care and maintenance in Revelstoke, B.C. for relocation to the Barkerville Gold Camp near Wells, B.C. and upgrade to a +3,000-tonne/day facility subject to all necessary government approvals. In November 2010 the Company and the Lhtako Dene First Nation also signed a Project Agreement in relation to its Bonanza Ledge and Cariboo Gold Projects. The Company has completed significant drilling and exploration programs and together with the historical data is compiling all information to determine geologic models and updated technical reports to continue with exploration and development of the Cariboo Gold projects.
