National Instrument 43-101 ("NI 43-101") is an industry-wide standard for the public disclosure of information relating to mineral properties. It is a strict guideline for how public companies may disclose scientific and technical information about mineral projects. An NI 43-101 requires that a "qualified person" be attributed to the information given. This person is required to be a reputable professional who is knowledgeable of the mineral property involved, and has adequate experience and qualifications to make the statements which are made within the report. Typically, this person is a mining engineer or geoscientist with at least five years experience in mineral exploration, mine development or the operation of a mineral project. The individual also has to be in good standing with a professional association.
