Mining Matters builds awareness and interest in Earth science among youth

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 21, 2014) - The WHERE Challenge is a national contest that asks students aged 9 - 14 years to discover the answers to these questions: What on Earth is in your stuff and WHERE on Earth does it come from? The Challenge promotes education and awareness among students about the mining industry and the relevance of rocks and minerals used to make virtually everything (that) they use every day.

After receiving entries from more than 500 students across the country, the 6th annual Mining Matters WHERE Challenge, sponsored by Kinross Gold Corp., has awarded more than $5,000 in five national, 11 regional and three school prizes. The 2014 Kinross WHERE Challenge is endorsed by the Canadian Earth sciences community, presented by Mining Matters, www.MiningMatters.ca.
